How to Soak Seed

By soaking seeds, you initiate the germination process, activating enzymes and unlocking vital nutrients that are otherwise dormant. This makes the seeds easier to digest and maximises nutrient absorption for your avian companions.

Soaking also helps to increase the hydration content of the seeds, promoting proper hydration for your birds, which is crucial for their overall health and vitality.

Incorporating soaked seeds into your bird's diet can lead to improved feather health, vibrant plumage, and enhanced energy levels. Additionally, it can aid in maintaining a healthy weight and support their immune system, contributing to a long and happy life.

Steps

1. Gather the Supplies: Prepare a clean, shallow container or bowl to soak the seeds. Ensure it is large enough to accommodate the desired quantity of seeds.

2. Measure the Seeds: Determine the amount of bird seeds you wish to soak. Follow the recommended portion for your specific bird species or the quantity they usually consume in one sitting.

3. Rinse the Seeds: Place the measured seeds in a fine-mesh strainer or colander. Rinse them thoroughly under cool, running water until it runs close to clear.

4. Add Water: Transfer the rinsed seeds to the prepared container or bowl. Pour clean, fresh water over the seeds, ensuring they are fully submerged. Don't forget your seed will expand, so ensure to add about an inch of extra of water.

5. Soaking Time: The soaking time will depend on the type of seeds and the bird species. In general, larger seeds may require longer soaking, while smaller seeds may need only a short time. A common guideline is to soak for 8 to 12 hours or overnight.

6. Observe Swelling: Keep an eye on the seeds as they soak. They will gradually absorb water and swell in size.

7. Drain and Rinse Again: After the recommended soaking time has passed, carefully drain the water from the seeds using the strainer or colander. Rinse the seeds once more under cool, running water. You may notice the water may turn dirty, this is common as nutrients are released during the soaking process.

8. Serve to Your Bird: The soaked seeds are now ready to be served to your feathered friend. Place them in their designated feeding dish and watch them enjoy the nourishing treat. Soaked seeds should have an earthy smell and be offered immediately.

9. Dispose of Unused Soaked Seeds: If there are any leftover soaked seeds, discard them after a few hours to prevent spoilage.

10. Repeat as Needed: You can repeat the soaking process regularly to provide your bird with fresh, soaked seeds as part of their balanced diet.

Remember, always monitor your bird's eating habits and adjust the soaking time or portion size if necessary. Fresh water should always be available for your bird to drink.

Happy feeding!
